Amanda Efird (School Counselor): Amanda was nominated from among her
colleagues in the state as an exemplary school counselor. She will be recognized on
the School Counselor Corps Grant website during National School Counseling
Week, February 2-6. Amanda and her contribution to school counseling will be
highlighted this week through a social media post by the Colorado Department of
Education.
Mike Jurney (Head Wrestling Coach): Mike will be inducted into the Colorado
High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame on April 13th. This is the
announcement from CHSCA: “Mike Jurney, is the name synonymous with the very
successful High School Wrestling program at Rocky Ford High School. Jurney has
led the Meloneer’s program for the past 35 years. In that time period Rocky Ford
teams have finished in the top-ten at the state tournament 25 times winning two
team-championships and three runners-up. The Meloneers have had 34 individuals
win state championships under Jurney’s tutelage. Five times Jurney has been named
the CHSCA wrestling coach of the year and in 2005 he was a finalist for the
NHSACA coach of the year. He was a coach for the CHSCA All State Games in
wrestling in 2007 and 2022. In 2015 the Colorado Chapter of the National
Wrestling Hall of Fame named Jurney the 2A/3A coach of the year. Jurney is a
1985 graduate of Moffat County High School and earned a degree from Adams
State University in 1992.
Students:
Cayson Van Dyke (12th Grade Student): It is my understanding that Cayson has
broken the school record for the most number of pins during his wrestling career. I
believe he earned his 100th pin at the wrestling tournament this past weekend. This
is an amazing feat!
