5.6.2020 Seniors


Please check your email for information on virtual graduation practice.  

The senior slide show will be available to seniors/parents the week after graduation.  Mrs. Muñoz will record the graduation ceremony and will add the senior slide show to that video.  The link will be shared with seniors/parents.   Yearbooks will be available the week after graduation. 

The Otero County Health Department is requiring household members only in the vehicles for graduation.  Thank you in advance for helping us keep a dignified graduation by adhering to these regulations.

News from RFJSHS:

We are on day 3 of E-Learning and we are impressed with how things are moving along rather smoothly.  Chromebook tech issues were tough yesterday but we got the problem solved.  If your child is still having the privacy error issues, have them email their teacher and they can give them the directions on how to fix it. 

I have a zoom meeting with senior student council members on Thursday – 4.2.20 – to discuss alternatives to graduation.  Seniors can reach out to Cameron, Ricardo, Emilio or Elias to share your thoughts and ideas about graduation.  If school continues to be closed, we want to ensure that graduation, in whatever form, will still occur.   

Student Council has coordinated a spirit week with schools up and down the valley for K-12 students.  Please look on our facebook page and on the website for flyers with the information.  What a fun way to get students involved during this time.

No news at this time for any further school closures beyond April 17th.  We will wait for the governor’s directives and share those out as soon as we know. 

Miss J. has created google classrooms for each grade level, 7-11, for pre-registration of classes for next year.  Look for a parent text with information on how to access this. 

Athletes:  Just a reminder that completing your work is still required so you can be eligible for athletic participation in the fall.   CHSAA statement: we are all on hold awaiting the decisions of the state, health and educational entities in the next weeks. No Association decisions regarding spring activity/athletic resuming or cancellations will be made before April 13th unless decisions are made at the state level.

Thank you in advance for encouraging your child to stay engaged with his/her work so that credits can still be awarded.   There is a possibility that if your child does not do the work, he/she could be required to attend school in June to make up for the time that was missed because of not completing work.

3.25.2020 RF Public Library

RFJSHS can work at the public library from 1-3 pm M-F in the conference room.  This opportunity is available for students who do not have access to internet at home.  10 students will be allowed in the conference room at a time.  No tutoring will occur.  This is simply a place for students to access the internet and work on your assignments for E-Learning Days.  This will be a first come, first served basis. Enter through the north door.


3.25.2020 RFJSHS Library

The RFJSHS Library will be open today 3/25 and tomorrow 3/26 from 10:00 am to 12 pm for students to check out books.  The school will comply with social distance requirements, gathering limits, and safe handling procedures.


3.24.2020 E-Learning Days


As we approach the E-Learning Days for your child, know that we are committed to providing your child with the best education possible through this new journey. You can expect this type of learning through April 16th. If we find out additional information on school closure, we will get that information out ASAP.

The E-Learning will launch on Thursday, 3.26.20, and will run M-TH through April 16th.  Students will be able to reach out to their teacher remotely following this schedule:

8:00 am -10:00 am           Language Arts, Math

10:00 am - 12:00 pm        Social Studies, Science

12:00 pm - 2:00 pm          Electives

2:00 - 4:00 pm                   All Teachers

Teachers will be reaching out to their students on a daily basis to check on academic progress and answer student questions. Advisory teachers will also be reaching out on a weekly basis to check in on academic, technology, physical and any social emotional concerns that students may have. We are attempting to keep things as normal as possible by making sure that daily contact is made.  Teachers will still be giving 2 grades per week.

Academics are our main priority at this point but here is some additional information on other activities. Sport practices and events are cancelled through April 18th. Any activities that were scheduled through April 18th are cancelled at this point – to be rescheduled, if possible.  Again – this is going to be a journey that we have to work together on and I feel confident that our staff and students will rise to the occasion to meet the challenges of the task ahead.

Ahora que acercamos a los días de E-learning de sus hijos, queremos que sepan que estamos comprometidos a proveer a sus hijos con una educación tan mejor como sea posible por esta jornada. Pueden esperar esta clase de aprendizaje por el 16 de abril. Si enteramos más información sobre el cierre de escuelas compartiremos todo con ustedes tan pronto como sea posible.

Comenzaremos E-learning jueves el 26 de marzo, y continuaremos hasta el 16 de abril. Los estudiantes van a poder a ponerse en contacto con sus maestros remotamente en acuerdo con este horario:

 8:00 am - 10:00 am          Artes y Letras y Matemáticas

10:00 am - 12:00 pm        Estudio Social, Ciencias

12:00 pm - 2:00 pm          Electivos

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm            Todos los maestros

Los maestros van a estar comunicando con sus hijos en una base diaria para revisar su progreso académico y para responder a preguntas. Los maestros de Advisory (la clase consejera) van a estar poniéndose en contacto con sus hijos en una base semanal para revisar cualquier preocupación con lo académico, tecnológico, físico o cualquier situación emocional que pueden tener. Estamos intentando de mantener todo tan normal como sea posible por asegurar que ponemos en contacto diariamente.   Los maestros todavía van a poner 2 notas por semana.

 Todo lo académico es nuestra prioridad principal a este punto, pero aquí hay información adicional en otras actividades. Prácticas de deportes y eventos están cancelados por abril 18. Cualquier actividad fijada por el 18 de abril está cancelada a este punto-para ser reprogramada, si sea posible. Otra vez, tenemos que trabajar juntos y me siento seguro que nuestro personal de escuela y los estudiantes vamos a estar a la altura de esta situación y todo que tenemos que hacer.

Gracias de antemano por animar a sus hijos a quedarse ocupados con su tarea para recibir los créditos necesarios. Hay una posibilidad que si sus hijos no hagan sus tareas, que tendrán que venir a la escuela durante el mes de junio para recuperar tiempo faltado por no trabajar en sus tareas.

Tener por seguro que si la escuela está cerrada por más tiempo extendido, vamos a considerar las actividades del fin del año-graduación, graduación del octavo grado, etc.-en una manera significativa. 05.11.2020 Packet Return


JIS-  May 18th is fast approaching.  I hope you are all doing your very best on your e-Learning packets.  Remember that they are due on Monday, May 18th from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm at the front of JIS.  It is important that you turn in all completed work that day.  Teachers will then finish grading the work and posting your students grade.  You will be able to access your Goedustar account to see those grades and report cards will be mailed out the first week in June.  We will also have your students personal belongings, fundraiser prizes and class pictures for you when you return the packets.  Lost and found items will be on tables outside of the school on that day for you to peruse if your child has lost an item.  If you have not returned library books please do so at this time.  

JIS - El 18 de mayo se acerca rápidamente. Espero que todos estén haciendo lo mejor que puedan en sus paquetes de aprendizaje. Recuerde que deben ser entregados el lunes 18 de mayo de 8:00 A. M. A 6:00 P. M. en el frente de JIS. Es importante que entregue todo el trabajo completado ese día. Luego, los maestros terminarán de calificar el trabajo y publicaran la calificación de sus estudiantes. Podrá acceder a su cuenta de Goedustar para ver esas calificaciones. Se enviarán las tarjetas de calificaciones por correo la primera semana de junio. AR (Accelerated Reading)

Dear Parents,

We want your child to continue to be successful with Reading for Fun.  As you know AR is a way in which to do so. With that in mind we want to ensure that your child can access the Renaissance Learning Website so that they can read and then test on the books.  The URL for Renaissance Learning is as follows:

Even though students are able to read and test we will not be giving out any rewards.  The AR trip for this year has been cancelled, but I can assure your child that if they have already earned it, I will make it right.  I am looking into an alternative reward that can be done locally. I will share more information with you when I am able.  

The students need books. As you know with the Stay at Home order Libraries and schools are closed, so the need for books is huge.   If you or your friends, neighbors or family members have books that are not being read, our students need them. If you would share them with the kids or even bring them to the Lunch Distribution sites we will get them in the hands of the students.

AR (lectura acelerada)

Queremos que su hijo/a siga teniendo éxito con su Lectura por diversión. Como saben, AR es una forma de lograrlo. Con eso en mente, queremos asegurarnos de que su hijo/a pueda acceder al sitio web de Renaissance Learning para que pueda leer y luego tomar exámenes en los libros. A pesar de que los estudiantes pueden leer y tomar exámenes, no daremos ninguna recompensa. El viaje de AR para este año ha sido cancelado, pero puedo asegurarle a su hijo/a que si ya se lo han ganado, haré algunos arreglos. Estoy buscando una recompensa alternativa que se pueda hacer localmente. Compartiré más información con usted cuando pueda.

Los alumnos necesitan libros. Como sabe, con la orden de Permanecer en Casa, las bibliotecas y las escuelas están cerradas, por lo que la necesidad de libros es enorme. Si usted o sus amigos, vecinos o familiares tienen libros que no están leyendo, nuestros estudiantes los necesitan. Si los compartiera con los niños o incluso los llevará a los sitios de Distribución de Almuerzos, los pondremos en manos de los estudiantes.

Thank you for your patience during this stressful time.  We are working as quickly as we can to put together 4 weeks of work for your student.  We will be handing out work packets to your student tomorrow, 3/25 from 7 am to 7 pm

3rd and 4th Grade will be in the front of the school.

5th and 6th grade will be on the north side of the building where the buses go.

Please follow the signs.  You will be asked to sign that you received the packet.  If you have multiple kids in the building, the packets will be sent with the youngest child.  We are asking for any library books your child has at home be returned when you pick up your packets.  While you are waiting, please honor Social Distancing of 6 feet.

The staff at Washington Primary School misses you very much! Just a reminder: Your child’s next learning packet will be ready for pickup, Thursday, April 16 between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. Please drive in front of the school building (11th Street) and stop at the grade-level table to pick up your child’s new packet.  We prefer that you use the drive-up service but we can accommodate walkers too.  Your child’s entire learning packet from the first 4 weeks will be turned in at this same time.

The staff at Washington Primary School worked hard the last two days to get learning packets together for distribution today.  The staff worked staggered schedules, observed social distancing requirements, and followed safe handling and hand washing procedures.
