Ballot Issue 3B: New auxiliary gym + lights and bleachers for the new football field and track
The Rocky Ford School District is proposing a bond issue to the community to fund upgrades to the athletic facilities at the Junior Senior High School. The proposed bond would increase the debt of the district by $4.5 million, with a repayment cost of up to $7.3 million, which would increase the district taxes by up to $362,000 annually. The specific purposes of the bond are:
- Constructing an auxiliary gym and related improvements for school and community use, and
- Installing lighting and bleachers for the new community funded football field and track
The money has already been raised to build a new football field and an all-weather track. More than $775,000 has been raised and we are optimistic that additional grant money will be awarded from two more applications. Construction on this project will begin in June, 2017 with an expected completion date of August, 2017. However, the funding is not enough to cover the costs of installing lights for the new field and new bleachers. The estimated cost of lights and bleachers is between $500,000 and $600,000. The proposed bond would pay for this as well as the construction of a new auxiliary gym.
Three public meeetings will be held to answer questions about the proposed bond:
- October 11, 6:00 pm, Gobin Building - Baggage Room
- October 17, 6:00 pm, Gobin Building - Baggage Room
- November 1, 6:00 pm, Gobin Building - Baggage Room
The Election Notice required to be made available to the public can be read here: Election Notice.
